Our Purpose
This is a 7 minute dramatic short film about the unseen
Mexican-American experience.
We want to highlight our vibrant, hard working, persevering culture within a Texas refinery town, while showing the constant internal battle men suffer and reinforced by our machista culture.
We explore the idea of suppressing our suffering to provide a better future for our families that seems impossible to reach, but you're expected to continue working. And at the end of every grueling 12 hour work day for years to pass, what are we really sacrificing?

Angel
Hands rough from manual labor, the refineries haven’t been kind, a relentless battle for his spirit as he does his best to provide for his family financially but failing to be there emotionally. So much so one night he doesn’t come home from work. Until he has to Monday morning. Perpetually trapped in a cycle of his own misery and shame of not being the man he could be for the people he loves.

Maria (casted)
She’s seen her own mother give so much to her father only for him to never love her how she deserved. Committed to never letting that happen to herself or her kid she is fed up of the deep imbalance of power as a first generation Mexican American and is attempting to break away from generational curses with Angel, but he seems unable to do the same.

Manuel
Your typical Mexican charming, outgoing exterior but has an internal sadness that he is unable to identify or process. Sometimes not really knowing if he exists, but what he does know is to work. To provide, and give his kids a life he never had. So that they don’t also have to sell pieces of gum in the streets. He will never let that happen.
